In January 2024, Nova Labs and Telefonica announced a partnership to trial Helium carrier offload in Mexico. Several US-based MNOs have recently joined the program and are offloading terabytes of subscriber data daily into the Helium Mobile Network.
4. How do subscribers of a Helium Mobile Carrier Offload partner connect to the Helium Network?
The process is seamless and automatic for the carrier’s subscribers. When their subscriber's device enters an area with Helium Network coverage, it will seamlessly and securely switch to the Helium Network to offload data traffic. This roaming happens in the background without disrupting the subscriber's experience or requiring any direct interaction from the subscriber. The technology that makes this seamless roaming possible is called Passpoint/Hotspot 2.0. Passpoint automatically and securely authenticates subscribers into the network using the credentials stored inside their SIM cards or an over-the-top delivered TLS certificate assigned to a specific subscriber.
