How do I manually trigger Call Data Record (CDR) verification with my Hotspot?
How do I manually trigger Call Data Record (CDR) verification with my Hotspot?
Updated over a month ago

To initiate the CDR verification process you simply need to be in communication with a qualifying Cell Tower in your area while at the same time being connected to the Helium Mobile Hotspot that you are attempting to verify.

Keep in mind that this needs to be done with a phone that has an active Helium Mobile Subscriber sim, along with its Dynamic Coverage certificate enabled.

CDR Verification with Call Correlation

  1. Use a phone with an active Helium Mobile subscription, ensuring its Dynamic Coverage Certificate is enabled.

  2. Ensure that you have disabled WiFi calling

  3. Connect directly to the “Helium Mobile” WiFi of the Helium Mobile Hotspot you are attempting to verify.

  4. With the phone connected to your Helium Mobile Hotspot, and with WiFi calling disabled on your phone, try the following:

    • Complete a short phone call.

    • Send a text message.

    • Browse some web pages.

Note: It is highly recommend you try to complete all three of these steps.

5. Once you've had a chance to complete this, the HMH CDR verification portion should be complete.

Now that the HMH CDR is set up, you will need to set up a correlating CDR while utilizing your Helium Mobile Subscriber sim. To do this, simply temporarily disconnect from your Helium Mobile Hotspot. You can shut down the Hotspot during this time to ensure you are disconnected from it.

Once you confirm you have disconnected from the hotspot, run through the same set of steps one more time:

  • Complete a short phone call.

  • Send a text message.

  • Browse some web pages.

Once that is done, feel free to power back on your Hotspot. Both your Helium Mobile Hotspot CDR and your correlating Helium Subscriber CDR should now be set up.

CDR Verification with Discovery Mapping

If your hotspot is located in a location with poor T-Mobile coverage you may not be able to complete the CDR verification process above due to calls & texts not going through.

In this situation you can alternatively attempt to CDR verify with Discovery Mapping. To complete this you need to setup both your Dyanmic Coverage certificate, along with enabling Discovery Mapping.

Installing your Dynamic Coverage Certificate

  • Open the Helium Mobile application and go to settings, click on “Dynamic Coverage Setup”

  • Select “Enhance Dynamic Coverage”

  • Install the Dynamic Coverage Certificate

  • Click on "Return to Setup" to head back to the Helium Mobile application homepage

Enabling Discovery Mapping

Once you have installed your Dynamic Coverage certificate you will need to go ahead and enable Discovery Mapping.

To do this head back to your Helium Mobile application home page and head to "Mapping":

  • Click on the "Enable Mapping" toggle and review the important information before clicking "Accept" and proceeding.

After accepting, you should see "Mapping Enabled!", at this point you should be all set and can select "Sounds good!" to head back to the Helium Mobile application homepage.

Once you have confirmed that you have successfully installed the Dynamic Coverage Certificate and have enabled Discovery Mapping, simply connect to your hotspot and pass some data through it, watching a short youtube video should suffice.

CDR verification should be complete now, however please note that if your hotspot was previously banned due to failed verification, it can take up to 7 days after successfully completing verification for your hotspot to be removed from the banlist.

You can review a manually updated list in the official Helium Community Discord directly under in the #HIP-131 channel, the lists are provided daily and can be viewed under the pinned messages.
