For outdoor hotspots you can input installation parameters like height, direction and view the modeled coverage the Hotspot can potentially provide. Indoor hotspots always cover one hex (small areas about the size of a single-family lot that make up Boosted Locations), but the same best practices apply - make sure you put it high on the ceiling and orient toward highly populated areas.
