What is the CDR Verification Process?
Updated this week

With the recent implementation of HIP-131, Call Detail Record (CDR) verification has been introduced to reduce the effects of gaming within the Helium network.

Any Helium Mobile Hotspots deployed in high-value points of interest designated as:

  • A** Zones

  • B** Zones

will need to be validated with a CDR correlation from their hotspot to a nearby partner network cell tower to continue qualifying for Proof of Coverage rewards.

The CDR verification process ensures that the hotspot is physically present at the asserted address submitted during deployment.

The process triggers when Helium Mobile subscribers connect to your hotspot and use their phones for calls or data browsing with nearby partner networks. They automatically contribute to the verification. A typical scenario is someone walking or driving near your hotspot's coverage area while using data for navigation.

This activity creates a CDR with the partner network tower in the area. Once they are close enough to connect to your hotspot, their data will route through your hotspot instead of the partner network. If the CDR tower and your hotspot are located within proximity, your hotspot will be verified. No additional steps or settings are required from either you or the subscriber.

If the CDR verification process hasn’t taken place and your hotspot has been banned, there are a few things to check:

  1. Review your Hotspot’s Assertion
Make sure there weren’t any issues during your initial onboarding location assertion, and verify that your hotspot has been asserted on the map as close as possible to its actual physical location.

  2. Connect to your Helium Mobile Hotspot
Using a phone with an active Helium Mobile subscription and its Dynamic Coverage Certificate active, attempt to connect to your hotspot when you are within its vicinity and try making a phone call. This should trigger a CDR verification attempt.

  3. CDR Unban Process Timeline
If your hotspot has been banned due to a previously failed CDR verification attempt and you have recently completed the requirements of the CDR verification process, please allow up to 7 days for the ban to be lifted from your hotspot.
